This October marked a significant milestone for us, as our founder, Pete, visited Uganda to oversee the launch of our learning hub. The atmosphere was filled with joy and anticipation as we successfully registered ten children, each embarking on a journey that will shape their futures. Our team of four incredible teachers – Alex, Annie, and Juliet – welcomed the children with open arms. Under their guidance, the children will immerse themselves in a fun, creative learning environment where play is at the heart of their development. The play-based learning approach encourages social interaction, creativity, and, most importantly, joy.

This isn’t your typical school; it’s a haven for young learners. Here, dreams take flight like paper airplanes launched by eager hands. But these aren’t ordinary dreams; they are the dreams of children who haven’t yet tasted the alphabet soup of formal education. These are the unschooled, the ones whose eyes hold curiosity and whose hearts crave knowledge.

Across the dusty field, a group of boys huddle, their laughter echoing against the tin walls. They’re part of our Education in Sports Football Program, guided by Ronnie, our dedicated trainer. Yes, they learn dribbling and passing, but they also learn life skills—teamwork, discipline, and resilience. These boys, aged 13 to 16, kick their way out of adversity. Their worn-out shoes now bear the marks of countless victories, both on and off the field.

In the slum settlements of Danida and Soweto, Jinja, Uganda, life unfolds in hues of struggle—a delicate dance between survival and dreams. Growing up in these slums presents its own set of challenges for children. Many come from families struggling to make ends meet, and opportunities for education and personal development are scarce. Children face numerous obstacles on a daily basis—poverty, limited access to education, and lack of resources are just a few of the adversities they encounter. Yet, despite these challenges, the children of Danida and Soweto are resilient and determined to create a better future for themselves.
